Bessie Lee, the only child of Louis B and Bertie May Simms, died on Friday afternoon after a short illness with influenza and pneumonia. She was a bright and lovable child and had entered school this fall, being 6 years, 8 months and 25 days old. A short service at the home at 12:30 on Sunday was conducted by Rev. JB Johnson, and another service in the Christian Church at Crawfordsville with Rev. SG Smith of Ladoga in charge, at 2:30. Burial in the Masonic Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Elnor and son Rudolph, came from Indianapolis for the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Simms live on the Dr. Kleiser farm, E. of town, now owned by LS Phillips. - typed by kbz

Brown's Valley. When death enters the home and takes the only cherished one of a household it is then only that we are made to realize the uncertainty of life. Bessie Lee Sims was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sims of near Brown's Valley, whose cherished hopes were so soon blighted in life. She was in her first year of school and was loved by her teachers and playmates. Her presence in her home was like a ray of sunshine that gave beauty, life and love to the bereaved parents who are now left to mourn the untimely loss of their precious darling. Like a beautiful flower plucked while yet in bud so little Bessie was gathered by the death angel to adorn her heavenly home. Where our treasures are there our hearts also; oh not in cruelty, not in wrath, the reaper came that day; it was an angel visited the home and took your little girl away. It should strengthen us all to reflect on what heaven will be when adorned with such jewels as this innocent one. We would say to the loving parents whose home is now shrouded in sorrow to lean upon Him who can strengthen you and alleviate your sorrow. Let faith and hope mingle with our natural sorrows and look to that future where the severed ties of earth are reunited. We know that she has gone to the home prepared for those who faithfully serve the Lord. - typed by kbz
